Winter Warming Aromatherapy
Warming Aromatherapy
My favourite winter aroma is mulled wine, full of warming virus and bacteria fighting ingredients to leave you fighting fit! If it doesn't cure your cold you won't care after a glass or 2! Be warned though,.I once singed my hair and eyebrows after taking the lid off the pan for a sniff. The vaporising alcohol turned into a mighty blue flame but boy it smelt fantastic!
Mix in a large saucepan 1 bottle of red wine, 200 ml orange juice, a dash of brandy, 2 cinnamon sticks, a few cloves and a pinch of nutmeg. Add sugar to taste, sliced oranges and lemons and simmer over a low heat without a lid, until hot, not boiling and serve in robust, heat resistant glasses.
Wicked Winter Remedies
If you're fighting something off (virus, man or vampire) this is fantastic! I've just recovered from a cold and these recipes made it go in a few days instead of lingering for longer.
Guacamole for Real Man Flu!
Chop up an avocado with 3 raw garlic cloves mashed up in it and a raw chopped onion - yes, that's probably why I live by myself!!> You can also add some piri piri or chilli sauce, a tomato and eat it with tortilla chips or a jacket potato. Gorgeous if a little bracing!
I'm a bit of a garlic hard nut and believe in nuking a cold so you might like to start with just one clove!

Hot Toddy
Take an inch of fresh ginger. Peel it and chop into tiny pieces, add juice of half a lemon and top up with water (and whisky if you feel so inclined). It's a bit tart so sweeten with some honey or sugar then curl up and enjoy! Leave the ginger in the mug and you can keep topping it up with more liquid during the day, especially if you don't have to drive anywhere!
5 things you probably don't know about garlic and the common cold!
1. Garlic has been used as a medicine for at least 4,000 years. Cloves were found in the tombs of ancient Egyptian pharaohs.
2. The cold is the most common disease of mankind.
3. Adults catch between 2 and 4 colds a year on average, babies and
young children between 6 and 10!!
4. In a study at the Garlic Centre in East Sussex, 146 subjects took a garlic supplement or a placebo over a 12 week period. It was found that the garlic provided effective protection against the common cold for most of the people in the study and those who took garlic
and still caught a cold had symptoms for significantly shorter time.
5. Garlic has been effective in treating infections caused by the hospital superbug, MRSA
