IVF Support Services
After trying to conceive for what seemed to be an eternity I visited my GP and the rest as they say is history. Three years of investigations and medication led us onto the need for IVF treatment, which after research and deliberation we undertook in Sweden. Fortunately for us we were successful thanks to the clinics expertise and fantastic success rates. However, I wish that my experience of support and guidance in the UK had been as positive an experience too.
Due to this lack of support and information I decided to set up my own support programme and IVF Support Services was born in 2004 as was my 3rd daughter - thanks again to the intervention of the Swedes!
Today Infertility treatment, namely IVF, plays a huge role in the success of thousands of births around the globe, but so too does alternative therapies. My first experience of alternative therapies was reflexology which I had carried out on several occasions during my first cycle, the therapist worked on certain areas linked to my uterus and ovaries and this helped not only my body, but my mind.
I again had reflexology during my first labour/birth, I had severe pre eclampsia and my blood pressure was not being controlled by the medication. The Doctors feared I would be rushed to theatre or worse! The midwives called for a reflexologist that was working on the ward and within the hour my blood pressure had dropped enough for me to give birth to the first baby. My second daughter was born in theatre, but I am sure that this would have also been a very different story if it weren’t for the therapist and her treatment. During the following week I was very ill and the reflexologist returned to help reduce the level of fluid in my body - I feel I owe a great deal to her for my improved health and emotional stability during this time!
I now work with hundreds of couples from all around the country and world who have recently found out that they need fertility treatment or are currently carrying out their own cycles. Many of these couples choose alternative therapies as a first port of call or as an addition to their medical treatment. Clinics themselves now offer services such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and reflexology to their patients as an aid to help egg collection and implantation as research has shown the benefits of these techniques for the patient and the embryos that they transfer.
Today therapists play a very important role in the world of infertility. Without them and their services many couples would not have experienced parenthood or have been able to enjoy their cycles thanks to the calm and empowering feeling that is gained by being in control of what is done to your own body.
