Cabbage poultice for my housemaid's knee!
Although I rarely get down on my knees to polish my step these days I've developed Housemaid's knee! That's a red, sore bump just below my kneecap and inflammation of the calf, usually from kneeling too long on one's knees! Not me, I've done nothing of the sort, not banged it and had sat 3 days in a conference so have no idea where it came from! I treated it with ice on the recommendation of an osteopath friend, Silke but before that had done a late trip to Sainsbury's and bought the healthiest looking organic Savoy I could find (I had a feeling a Savoy would be best). I took a leaf, crushed it a little with a rolling pin and wrapped it around my knee, securing with a bandage. By morning the swelling was visibly less and the redness gone. It did come back later and went down again with the same treatment!
My friend Matt tells me his GP recommended a cabbage leaf in the bra when his wife had mastitis after each of their children were born and it worked a treat!
