Bowen at the Back Pain Show
I had the Back Pain show marked in my diary to attend the CPD programme, until I realised there was not going to be a Bowen stand at all this year. There were two in 2009. In the interests of promoting Bowen and keeping the profile high in the back pain arena, Sandria Marks and I organised a stand which was very kindly sponsored and made possible by BTER and the European College of Bowen Studies.
We spoke to many health professionals and therapists over the two days. They were mainly physiotherapists, osteopaths and massage therapists, looking to study Bowen to further their skills. Some people were at the conference for both days CPD.
We gave about 70 short treatments and a lot of leaflets and 50 ECBS brochures were given out. As there were 5 of us on the stand each day, we were able to spend time and really chat to people with complicated and extremely painful back problems and give them worthwhile experiences of Bowen.
Many thanks to the dedicated Bowen therapists who came along at very short notice, some for both days. My abiding memory is at the end of the first day. The show had long since closed and the security guards, desperate to go home were trying unsuccessfully to usher out the last stragglers. Four Bowen therapists, stubbornly refusing to move until they had finished treating each other!
